General Image Culling Workflow

The core workflow for processing large collections of images efficiently.

Phase 1: Initial Review and Culling

Objective: Quickly identify and eliminate poor images.

  1. Import Images: Open folder containing all images
  2. First Pass: Rapid review using and keys
    • Mark obvious rejects with R key
    • Flag interesting keepers with S key
  3. Filter Rejected: Press E to view only rejected images
    • Final review of rejected images
    • Confirm elimination decisions
  4. Filter Selected: Press Z to view keeper images
    • Confirm selection choices
    • Make any necessary adjustments

Phase 2: Detailed Review

Objective: Make final selection decisions.

  1. Filter Selected: Press Z to show only keeper images
  2. Second Pass: More careful review
    • Use S or R to remove image from keepers
  3. Status Finalization: Ensure all images are potential keepers

Phase 3: Development and Processing

Objective: Apply final adjustments to selected images.

  1. Filter Selected: Press Z to show only keeper images
  2. Development Mode: Press M to switch to development tab
    • Use consistent exposure corrections
    • Apply uniform color grading
    • Make geometric corrections as needed

Phase 4: Export and Distribution

Objective: Prepare images for their intended use.

  1. Final Review: One last check of selected images (stay in development mode)
  2. Batch Export: Open export window (Cmd + Shift + E)
  3. Configure Export: Set appropriate format and settings
    • Choose format based on destination use
    • Configure filename patterns for organization
    • Select destination folder
  4. Execute Export: Begin batch processing
  5. Verification: Check exported files for quality and metadata
